Our Process

It’s important that you, the customer, have a clear expectation of what to expect from your general contractor. We strive to establish and maintain a clear, transparent process for our customers. While the scope, requirements, and unknowns of each job are unique and vary widely, most jobs follow a reasonably predictable process.

Consultation

The first step is to hear from you what you want and need, and formulate a preliminary plan to meet those aims. Often it begins with a phone call or email where you explain what you’re thinking, followed by an onsite visit where we discuss and define the proposed work in more detail, take any required measurements, and identify any challenges or unknows presented by the jobsite.

This process varies by customer–some customers know exactly what they want and it falls to us to determine feasibility. Other customers may just know they want a new kitchen but have no idea what that should look like. Wherever you are we can help guide you through the process based on our years of experience in countless homes. We will discuss your budget for the project and our workload to determine if we are a fit.

Contract

Once we have a mutual understanding of the work scope, we go to work to prepare an accurate contract that will detail the specific job and price. This can be a time consuming and complicated process as each job is unique. We don’t use square foot pricing and there is no computer program that will provide a price at the push of a button. Many times, we need to gather current project specific pricing from our subcontractors and this takes time. Depending upon our workload completing a contract can take more than 2 weeks. The contract will contain legal language that provides protection to both parties. Once the contract is signed a deposit is required to secure the contract and work can be scheduled to begin.

Construction

We try and minimize the disruption to your home. For instance, on a kitchen remodel, we may delay starting the demolition process until right before we know the new cabinets are ready. Otherwise, your kitchen could be torn up for weeks just waiting on the cabinets. As your general contractor we are managing the various work, subcontractors and inspections to complete your project. Patience is required during a remodel as challenges arise and unforeseen issues present themselves. It is also essential that any color, material or finish decisions are timely made so as to ensure a smooth efficient project.
